President Bola Tinubu has approved new appointments for the Directors-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS).
According to a release by the presidency’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, on Monday, “Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed is the new Director-General of the NIA. Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi is the new Director-General of the DSS.”
Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed brings a distinguished career in the foreign service, having joined the NIA in 1995.
Over the years, he has served in various capacities, eventually being promoted to Director and appointed as the head of the Nigerian mission to Libya. His experience also includes postings in North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan, and the State House in Abuja. He graduated from Bayero University, Kano, in 1990.
Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, the new Director-General of the DSS, has advanced through the ranks to his most recent position as Assistant Director-General. His service record includes roles as State Director in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi.
These appointments come in the wake of the resignation of the previous NIA and DSS chiefs. President Tinubu has expressed his expectation that the new security chiefs will diligently work to enhance the effectiveness of the two intelligence agencies.
He has urged them to leverage their experience in addressing the nation’s security challenges through improved collaboration with sister agencies and alignment with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
The President also extended his gratitude to the outgoing Directors-General for their contributions and wished them success in their future endeavors.
