Mariah Carey confirmed today, August 26, that her mother, Patricia, and her sister, Alison, both died on the same day over the weekend.
Mariah, 55, shared her grief with People.com, saying, “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day. I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
No additional details, including the causes of death for Patricia and Alison, have been released.
Patricia, a Juilliard-trained opera singer and vocal coach, was previously married to Alfred Roy Carey. Together, they had Alison, Mariah, and her brother Morgan before divorcing when Mariah was just 3 years old.
