The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old Quranic teacher, Abubakar Talba, for allegedly abducting two Almajiri boys from Katsina and sodomizing one of them. Talba reportedly lured the minors under the pretense of providing them with capital to start a business.
SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, spokesperson for the command, revealed in a statement on Monday, August 26, 2024, that Talba has attributed his actions to the devil. The statement read: “The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested Abubakar Talba, a 37-year-old from Hausari Dandal, Borno State, for abduction and sodomy.”
The statement continued: “Following a community complaint about his mistreatment of the boys under the guise of running a Quranic school, detectives from Gamawa Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer, promptly arrested the suspect.”
During interrogation, Talba admitted that he had attended a Quranic school in Fagge and had met one of his victims, Masaud Barau, a 12-year-old from Gamniya village in Niger Republic, at BATA area in Fagge LGA. Talba had brought Barau to a Quranic school in Rijiyar Lemo, Kano State, under the false promise of business support.
Talba lured Barau from Kano to Daura, where he encountered the second victim, Ibrahim Jabiru, a 13-year-old from Mai Mujiya village in Katsina State. Jabiru was also brought to a Quranic school in Daura with the pretense of providing capital to start selling touch lights and batteries.
From Daura, Talba moved the two boys to Danbatta, where he began abusing one of them inside a mosque. After spending the night in Danbatta, Talba proceeded to Udubo Village in Bauchi State, where he continued the abuse.
The Bauchi State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, psc, Anipr, will charge Talba in court once the investigation is completed. The command also urges the public to provide any information that could help locate the parents or guardians of the victims.
