A teenage boy is fighting for his life after being struck by lightning during a soccer practice at Glacier High School in Kalispell, Montana.
Mason Schaefer was one of three individuals, including another student and a coach, injured in the lightning strike on August 19.
While Schaefer’s family reported some positive signs on August 22, including his ability to squeeze their hands, his condition has since deteriorated. He remains in intensive care on life support.
His sister, Maddy, shared the update, stating: “Mason has had some bumps in the road the last 2 days of his recovery. He remains on life support at this time. We remain hopeful and are thankful for everyone’s continuing support.”
To assist with Schaefer’s medical expenses, Maddy has established a GoFundMe campaign, which has raised over $61,000.
The other student and the soccer coach injured in the lightning incident have been released from the hospital, according to a statement from Glacier High School principal Brad Holloway.
