Man Remanded for Alleged Stealing of Phone in Enugu

A 40-year-old man, Osita Igwe, has been remanded in custody after being accused of stealing mobile phones worth over N2 million.

According to Sahara Reporters, Igwe was arraigned on Tuesday at the Enugu North Magistrate Court on three counts of robbery and conspiracy.

The police alleged that he and others robbed Chijioke Mba of his belongings, including four iPhones and accessories, on July 5, 2024, at the Ebeano Tunnel area of Enugu State.

The prosecutor, Emma Ugwu, argued that Igwe’s actions violated several sections of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act and the Criminal Code.

Among the items allegedly stolen were a Samsung Fold 4, an iPhone 13 Pro Max, an iPhone cord, and $500 in cash.

Igwe pleaded not guilty to the charges. The presiding Chief Magistrate, Nelson Egbo, ordered his remand in Enugu Maximum Custodial Centre and adjourned the case until September 20, 2024.
