Pilot and Passenger Escape Injury After Aircraft Crashes on Busy Road in England

On Tuesday afternoon, a pilot and passenger narrowly escaped serious injury when their light aircraft crashed onto a busy road in Gloucestershire, England.

The crash occurred around 4:45 PM on the A419, near Aston Down Airfield in Frampton Mansell, situated between Cirencester and Stroud.

According to The Telegraph, photos of the aftermath show the stunned pilot and passenger sitting in the cockpit after their crash landing. One wing of the aircraft is missing, and debris is scattered across the road. Other images capture bystanders gathering around the aircraft to check on the occupants.

A spokesman for the Cotswold Gliding Club confirmed that two of its members were involved in the incident.

Chris Cooper told The Telegraph: “Two Cotswold Gliding Club members were taken to the hospital with minor injuries for evaluation after an incident involving one of the club’s motorized gliders. The Air Accident Investigation Branch is now involved, so we cannot provide further details at this time. We are working to obtain more information about the survivors’ conditions.”

The gliding club, one of the largest in the UK with approximately 150 members, is known for its extensive operations. Emergency services, including the Great Western Air Ambulance, responded to the scene.

An eyewitness described to Gloucestershire Live that the aircraft appeared to have “stalled and nose-dived onto the main road.”

Gloucestershire Constabulary has advised motorists of road closures while emergency services are on site and confirmed that only the two occupants were on board, with no other vehicles involved.
