Ogun State Revokes Licenses of 20 Orphanages

The Ogun State Government has revoked the provisional licenses of 20 private orphanages operating in the state due to non-compliance with regulations.

The decision was announced by the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye.

Adeleye expressed dissatisfaction with the activities of some private orphanage owners, stating that the state would not tolerate illegal practices such as illegal adoption, child trafficking, or child maltreatment. She emphasized the importance of orphanages operating with empathy and prioritizing the well-being of vulnerable children.

The commissioner explained that the state government is committed to safeguarding children’s welfare and preventing exploitation. She urged orphanage owners to adhere to the established guidelines and regulations.

Adeleye stated that the government aims to protect vulnerable children and maintain the integrity of orphanage services. She added that the ministry has taken steps to improve data collection to ensure that the number of children brought to orphanages is recorded and properly documented.

The 20 orphanages with revoked provisional licenses will be required to reapply after a month. Additionally, those with permanent licenses have been given additional guidelines to ensure they maintain the necessary standards.

Adeleye emphasized that the government’s actions are aimed at protecting vulnerable children and ensuring that orphanages operate in accordance with the law.
