Labour Party Chairman Killed in Ambush by Suspected Armed Herdsmen in Benue State

The news from Igumale Ward 1 is indeed tragic and distressing. The killing of Mr. Sunday Oche, the Labour Party Chairman, by suspected armed herdsmen while he was returning from his farm is a significant loss for his community and the party. It’s particularly heartbreaking that the incident resulted in the death of a leader who was likely dedicated to serving his people.

The fact that the attackers were armed and ambushed Mr. Oche and his companions indicates a serious security issue in the region. The escape of the five others with serious injuries further underscores the violence and danger faced by people in the area.

The Labour Party’s Publicity Secretary, Tersoo Orbunde, has confirmed the tragic news and mentioned that the body has been recovered and is awaiting burial.

He said: “He is a Ward Chairman from Igumale, Sunday Oche. He went to his cassava farm and he was attacked and killed. They have brought the corpse back.

“Our people have gone there to console the family and we are waiting for them on the arrangement for his burial to see how we can come in. The matter has also been reported to the police for necessary action.”
