Ondo State Mandates Students to Bring Hoe, Cutlass, and Other Items for School Registration

The Ondo State government has mandated that new students in public schools provide certain items during registration.

These items include a hoe, cutlass, broom, locker, chair, and file jackets. This is just like schooling in the 20th century.

A copy obtained by Peoples Gazette reads: “The circular also directed all new intakes to come to their school of choice with the following items: one hoe, one cutlass, a locker and a chair, a broom, and two file jackets during the registration exercise.”

The state government has provided an approved list of these items to all school principals and headteachers.

The total fees for new students are N5,000 for primary schools and N14,000 for secondary schools. These fees cover PTA levies, examinations, ICT, sports, utilities, medical, security, entrepreneurship, agriculture, CASS, running expenses, and administrative charges for external examinations.

The government has warned schools against collecting money for textbooks or uniforms. They should provide parents with a sample of recommended wears and a list of recommended books.

Schools are also not allowed to collect other items from students or charge additional levies.
