Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has reportedly decided he wants to stay at Anfield beyond the 2024-25 season.
The 32-year-old has had a great start to the new campaign, with Liverpool now managed by Arne Slot after the departure of legendary head coach Jürgen Klopp in May.
Salah has scored three goals and provided three assists in the first three Premier League matches, performing well under Slot. On Sunday, he scored again at Manchester United’s Theatre of Dreams, helping Liverpool win 3-0.
Since joining Liverpool from Roma in the summer of 2017, Salah has made 352 appearances for the club and scored 214 goals.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Salah is eager to extend his stay at Liverpool into a ninth year as the Slot era begins.
The report says Salah is keen to sign a new contract with Liverpool, who are currently second in the Premier League, behind Manchester City on goal difference. Salah wants to avoid ending up in obscurity like his former teammate Sadio Mané, whose reputation has declined since moving from Bayern Munich to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
Mané scored 13 goals in 32 appearances during his first season in Saudi Arabia, but has been overshadowed by Cristiano Ronaldo. Salah, now in the final year of his current contract, will be a free agent next summer.
Despite Salah’s desire to stay, talks about a new deal have not yet started. After Salah assisted him twice at Old Trafford, Luis Díaz has urged Salah to remain at Liverpool. Salah is not the only key player who might leave in 2025; Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also in the final year of their contracts.
