Dequantes Devontay Lamar, widely known as Rich Homie Quan, has tragically passed away at the age of 34.
The Atlanta rapper, famous for his platinum-selling hits, was found dead in his Atlanta home on Thursday, according to TMZ.
His family and a representative from the Fulton County morgue in Georgia have confirmed the sad news, but no official cause of death has been reported yet.
Born on October 4, 1989, in Atlanta, Georgia, Quan made a significant impact on the hip-hop world. He grew up in the Kirkwood neighborhood of Atlanta, showing early talent in baseball. He was a standout player in high school with hopes of turning professional, but after facing setbacks, including time in jail, he turned his focus to music.
Quan began his musical career around 2011 with the release of his first mixtape. Influenced by artists like Lil Wayne and T.I., he developed a style that blended gritty street stories with a melodic sound.
His career took off in 2013 with the hit song “Type of Way,” which became a street anthem and reached No. 50 on the Billboard Hot 100. This success led to a skyrocketing career.
Quan then teamed up with fellow Atlanta rapper Young Thug to form the collective Rich Gang under Cash Money Records, releasing the hit “Lifestyle” in 2014. The single went platinum and cemented his place in the hip-hop scene.
Though his collaboration with Young Thug was popular, personal differences eventually led them to part ways. Quan continued his solo career with the hit “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” in 2015. The song became one of the year’s top tracks, peaking at No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Despite his successes, Quan faced challenges throughout his career. Legal troubles and personal issues led to gaps in his music releases. His debut studio album, “Rich as in Spirit,” was not released until 2018, five years after his breakout hit.
