Suspected Boko Haram Insurgents Attack Yobe State

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have launched a new attack on Yobe State. The attack occurred in Buni Yadi town, the headquarters of Gujba Local Government area, on Thursday. This follows the recent murder of 34 people by terrorists in Mafa ward, Tarmuwa LGA.

According to Daily Trust, the latest attack took place at a vigilante camp near the government lodge. The insurgents burned down parts of the lodge and vehicles belonging to a bread factory.

A source from the town said: “They stormed the town last night on foot, set ablaze some part of government lodge and burned down two vehicles belonging to a bread factory call Annour Bread.”

Vigilante members and special forces engaged the insurgents, forcing them to retreat. One vigilante was injured during the attack. Before the attack, security operatives had cleared the streets, having received information about the insurgents’ planned infiltration.

The State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident, saying the insurgents came in large numbers on foot and began shooting.

Captain Shehu Muhammad, Assistant Director of Public Relations for Operation Lafiya Dole Sector 2 Damaturu, also confirmed the attack and stated that troops successfully repelled it.
