The Department of State for Security (DSS) has arrested Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
Ajaero was detained at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Monday while heading to the United Kingdom for an official assignment, according to the NLC.
Mr. Benson Upah, the NLC Head of Information, confirmed the arrest to Channels Television.
Ajaero was scheduled to attend the Trade Union Congress conference in London, which starts today.
Upah mentioned that the union does not know where Ajaero has been taken. However, Ajaero sent a message saying that the DSS arrested him.
This arrest follows an invitation he received from the police about a week ago regarding an investigation into terrorism financing.
