Borno Governor Zulum Closes Schools Due to Severe Flooding

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has ordered all schools across the state to be closed immediately because of the ongoing severe flooding in Maiduguri, the state capital, and nearby areas. This is to prevent possible loss of life as floodwaters continue to damage communities.

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Innovations, Engr Lawal Wakilbe, confirmed this on Monday evening. Wakilbe said that all primary and secondary schools have been told to close for two weeks, giving time for the floodwaters to go away.

This decision follows discussions with the state’s flood committee, which was created to monitor and respond to the emergency.

Wakilbe emphasized that the safety of students and staff was the most important thing and that the closure was a preventive measure.

Flooding has greatly affected many communities in almost all local government areas, especially in Maiduguri, Jere, and other nearby regions.
