A massive flood has destroyed a bridge on the Saminaka-Marjire road, which connects Saminaka town with Marjire and four other agrarian communities in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
This disaster has severed the link between these areas, significantly disrupting economic activities.
Council Chairman Hon. Mathew Bulus Gambo reported that the collapse has had a crippling effect on local economies, emphasizing the agrarian nature of the Lere Local Government Area.
In response, Governor Uba Sani has established a high-powered committee, chaired by his Chief of Staff, Sani Kila, to assess the damage and visit the affected areas. Gambo expressed gratitude for this prompt action, which he believes reflects a strong commitment to resolving the community’s issues.
The committee has also inspected other flood-affected locations within the local government, including Wawan Rafi Village, where another bridge has collapsed, as well as Nasarawa and Ungwan Shuru areas of Saminaka township.
Governor Sani assured that his administration would take immediate steps to address the damage. Through his Chief of Staff, Malam Liman Sani Kila, the governor reiterated his commitment to rural economic development. He promised that alongside the reconstruction of the damaged infrastructure, relief materials would be provided to the affected communities.
“We assure you that Governor Uba Sani is deeply committed to promoting the rural economy and addressing the citizens’ needs. Our committee will brief the governor on these developments, and urgent action will be taken,” he said.
