Vice-President Kashim Shettima visited Maiduguri on Tuesday to express his sympathy to the people of Borno following the devastating Alau dam flood that displaced thousands.
Leading a federal government delegation, Shettima was welcomed by Governor Babagana Zulum, who accompanied him to the Shehu of Borno’s palace, which was also affected by the flood. From there, the Vice-President proceeded to the Bakassi camp, where many of the displaced individuals are taking refuge.
During his visit, Shettima assured the flood victims that the government would provide 50 trucks of rice as immediate relief.
He also promised that the government would work with the North-East Development Commission and other agencies to expedite the process of relocating the displaced people, aiming to ensure they do not remain in the camp for more than two weeks.
On Tuesday morning, Maiduguri residents were met with severe flooding that submerged buildings and disrupted roads and bridges.
