A 30-year-old commercial motorcycle operator, Michael Olorunfemi, has been remanded in custody for allegedly raping his wife’s 17-year-old sister. The incident occurred in August 2024 in the Onigaari area of Irese Road, Akure, Ondo State.
Olorunfemi was arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court on a single count of unlawful sexual intercourse. According to the prosecution, the defendant lured the victim to a secluded area and forced himself on her.
The accused, who is married to the victim’s sister and has four children, admitted to the crime in a police statement. He claimed that he had promised the victim money in exchange for sexual favors, but failed to fulfill his promise.
The Chief Magistrate, Kolawole Aro, ordered Olorunfemi’s remand at the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The case has been adjourned until October 31, 2024.
