Former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori, aged 86, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, after a prolonged battle with cancer.
His daughter, Keiko Fujimori, shared the news on X, writing: “After a long battle with cancer, our father, Alberto Fujimori, has just passed away to meet the Lord. We ask those who loved him to accompany us with a prayer for the eternal rest of his soul. Thank you so much, Dad!” She was joined in the post by her siblings Hiro, Sachie, and Kenji.
Fujimori died in Lima, Peru, nine months after being released from prison.
The former agronomist, who served as President of Peru from 1990 to 2000, had faced numerous medical issues since his incarceration in 2007.
In 2009, he was convicted of kidnapping, murder, and corruption, receiving a 25-year prison sentence for human rights violations, including his indirect involvement in the Barrios Altos and La Cantuta massacres, which resulted in 25 deaths.
His presidency was marred by significant human rights abuses.
