Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has pleaded not guilty to charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. The 54-year-old rapper was arrested on Monday at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan, New York.
The indictment, unsealed on Tuesday, September 17, alleges that Combs ran a criminal enterprise involved in sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, and other crimes. Prosecutors accuse him of abusing, threatening, and coercing women for years to fulfill his sexual desires and protect his reputation.
Combs appeared in court on Tuesday and entered a not guilty plea to three felony counts. His lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, stated that Combs would fight the charges and seek his release from custody.
In a press conference, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damian Williams, indicated that more charges could be filed against Combs and his associates. He alleged that Combs used his business empire to facilitate criminal activities, including sex trafficking, forced labor, and obstruction of justice.
The indictment details allegations dating back to 2008, accusing Combs of coercing women into sexual performances known as “Freak Offs.” Prosecutors claim that Combs used drugs, threats, and violence to control his victims.
Combs has faced several civil lawsuits in the past, including one filed by his former girlfriend, R&B singer Cassie, who accused him of physical and emotional abuse.
