Nigerian Human Trafficker, ‘Rambo,’ Commits Suicide After Prison Attack

A notorious Nigerian human trafficker, John Ogais “Rambo,” accused of torturing and killing migrants, has died by suicide in an Italian prison.

According to local reports, Ogais took his own life after attacking and injuring four prison guards on Monday, September 16, 2024.

Ogais was arrested in 2017 on charges of being part of a gang that trafficked migrants from Libya to Italy and subjected them to torture, rape, and murder.

He was apprehended at the Cara ‘Santa’Anna’ shelter in Isola Capo Rizzuto, Calabria, after being identified by migrants who had arrived on the Italian island of Lampedusa.

Several survivors told police that Ogais, who went by the nickname “Rambo,” had beaten two Nigerian migrants to death at a Libyan camp. One of the victims, a minor, was killed while his brother was forced to watch under threat of being shot.

“I know that my cousin and others tried to escape, were caught, and then died from the torture,” one survivor told police.

Ogais and his accomplices tortured migrants in numerous ways, including using electric shocks and beating them with rubber tubes.
