University of Ibadan Students Crowdfund to Pay Tuition Fees Amid Hike

Students at the University of Ibadan (UI) have launched crowdfunding campaigns to raise tuition fees following a recent increase in costs.

As the September 20 deadline for payments approaches, many student groups have taken to social media to seek financial assistance, fearing that failure to pay could prevent them from taking their exams.

The University of Ibadan Student Union (UISU), along with faculties and departments such as Pharmacy, Nursing, Agronomy, Physiology, and Nutrition Science, have appealed to the public for donations.

The UISU is aiming to raise 50 million naira to help 500 students meet the deadline.

The Pharmaceutical Association of Nigeria Students and other student groups have also launched crowdfunding campaigns, citing the increased fees and economic hardship as reasons for students’ financial struggles.

Students at UI previously protested the fee hike and demanded a reversal. The university management responded by giving students a three-week break and instructing them to vacate their halls of residence.

Nigerians on social media have expressed concern and support for the students facing financial difficulties.
