British Man Accidentally Stabbed Himself to Death While Preparing Food

A British man tragically lost his life after accidentally stabbing himself while preparing a meal.

Barry Griffiths, 57, died in his flat in Wales, UK, when he used a knife to separate two frozen burgers.

The incident was discovered several days later when concerned neighbors reported not having seen Griffiths for over a week. Upon entering the flat, police found his body fully clothed on the bed.

A post-mortem examination revealed that Griffiths, who had limited use of one arm due to a stroke, died from a stab wound.

Detective Sergeant Stephen Vaughan, who attended the scene, confirmed there were no signs of assault or suicide. Instead, he believed the death was an accident.

Detective Chief Inspector Jonathan Rees, testifying at the Pontypridd coroner’s court on Monday, presented his theory. He suggested that Griffiths had been trying to separate the frozen burgers using a knife on the kitchen work surface.

He told Pontypridd said: “My thought process favoured the wound had been caused by an accident solely involving Mr Griffiths.

“The bottom drawer of the freezer had been left open and pulled forward in a position to access food items.

“On the work surface in the kitchen adjacent to the fridge freezer were two uncooked burgers, a knife and a tea towel.

“The wound to the abdomen would have been approximately the height of the work surface. My hypothesis at that stage was that Mr Griffiths was attempting to separate frozen burgers using a knife.”
