Motorists Left Stranded in Forest Following Collapse of Second Major Bridge in Borno After Flooding

A major bridge collapse has disrupted travel on the Maiduguri-Damboa highway in Borno State, leaving numerous travelers and transporters stranded.

The bridge, located at Dalwa village in Konduga Local Government Area, is a vital link between southern Borno and the state capital.

Residents have urged both federal and state governments to take immediate action to address the situation. They fear that the collapse will significantly impact their ability to transport produce to markets outside the area.

This incident comes on the heels of severe flooding that devastated Maiduguri just a few weeks ago. The flooding, which affected over 40,000 people, resulted in 37 deaths and 58 injuries.

The collapse of the Alau Dam contributed to the widespread damage as floodwaters surged into the city.

The recent bridge collapse, which occurred two days after the flooding, further exacerbated the challenges faced by residents. The bridge provides access to the University of Maiduguri and its teaching hospital.
