The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has ordered the closure of the Gomboru drug market in Maiduguri, Borno state.
The decision follows the discovery of flood-damaged drugs being washed and dried for sale at the market.
In a statement, NAFDAC said that the agency’s Director-General ordered the immediate closure of the market to facilitate a thorough investigation and removal of contaminated drugs.

“After the recent flooding in Maiduguri that submerged the Gomboru drug market where contaminated drugs were washed and sun-dried for resale, the NAFDAC DG ordered the immediate closure of the market to conduct a thorough shop-to-shop removal of these compromised drugs,” the statement reads in part.

The closure came after the devastating floods that struck Borno state on September 10, causing widespread damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure.
