A man identified as Nwachuku Ikechukwu died, and his wife was hospitalized, after inhaling generator fumes at their home in Owode-Egba, Ogun State.
The incident occurred on Thursday, September 19, when the couple turned on the generator in their sitting room around 10 pm. Neighbors discovered the couple unconscious the next morning and alerted authorities.
The police investigation revealed that there were no signs of violence. The wife, Oyin Falodun, regained consciousness in the hospital and explained that her husband had insisted on keeping the generator running until they fell asleep.
Falodun said that the generator must have turned off when the fuel ran out, causing them to pass out. She also stated that they both fell off their bed and that her husband struggled to get up before collapsing.
The wife is currently recovering at Ore Ofe Hospital, while Ikechukwu’s body has been taken to General Hospital, Owode-Egba, for an autopsy.
