A South Korean man has admitted to killing his girlfriend and concealing her body in a concrete-filled suitcase on his balcony for 16 years. The body was discovered during maintenance work in August 2024.
The man, in his 50s, told police he struck the woman with a blunt object during a dispute in 2008. He then buried the suitcase containing her body under a layer of bricks and cement on his balcony in Geoje.
An autopsy confirmed that the woman died from head trauma. Police identified the victim through fingerprint analysis. The man was arrested and charged with murder.

The couple had lived together in the apartment for five years before the incident. The man continued to reside there for eight years after the murder until he was arrested on drug charges. The apartment remained unoccupied and used for storage until the recent maintenance work.
The woman’s family reported her missing three years after her death. They believed she had left the city after breaking up with the man. The discovery of the body during the waterproofing work led to the resolution of the 16-year-old mystery.
