Inter-Cult Clash Leaves Eight Dead in Imo State

At least eight people have been killed in a clash between rival cult groups in the Awarra and Ochia communities of Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area, Imo State.

A community leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Punch that the state government’s failure to provide adequate security has allowed the cultists to wreak havoc in the area.

The clashes, which are believed to be over the control of proceeds from oil companies operating in the communities, have displaced residents and caused widespread fear.

The spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident and stated that security agencies have been working to restore peace in the area. However, he emphasized the importance of cooperation from the community members in ensuring lasting security.

A Facebook user shared graphic videos of the victims, highlighting the tragic consequences of the violence.
