Gbogi Emmanuel, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, has resigned from the party.
In his resignation letter submitted on Saturday, he described the ruling party under President Bola Tinubu as a “weapon of poverty,” stating it has made life increasingly difficult for the people, as evidenced by the country’s economic hardships.
Emmanuel emphasized that politics should go beyond winning elections; it should focus on providing relief and the benefits of democracy to the constituents. He criticized the APC for failing to uphold democratic values and disregarding loyalty among its members.
In the letter addressed to the APC Chairman of Ward 6 in Akoko South West Local Government, he expressed that his decision to leave was made after careful consideration and consultations with family and political associates in Akoko land. He lamented the party’s shift away from fairness, equity, and impartiality, stating, “The APC has adopted a practice of ‘robbing Peter to pay Paul.’”
He also condemned the recent primary election that produced Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the current governor and APC governorship candidate, calling it “shabby and shoddy.”
Emmanuel’s resignation follows a similar sentiment expressed by APC chieftain Joe Igbokwe in Lagos, who recently lamented the rising costs of staple foods, highlighting the struggles faced by Nigerians under the current administration.
Igbokwe, a long-time ally of Tinubu, had been active in his campaign during the presidential election.
