Sean “Diddy” Combs’ mother, Janice Combs, has publicly defended her son against allegations of sex trafficking, racketeering, and sexual assault.
In a statement released through her lawyer, Natalie G. Figgers, Janice condemned the public scrutiny her son has faced before his trial.
“It is heartbreaking to see my son judged not for the truth, but for a narrative created out of lies,” Janice said. “To bear witness what seems to be like a public lynching of my son before he has had the opportunity to prove his innocence is a pain too unbearable to put into words.”
While acknowledging that her son has made mistakes in the past, Janice defended his character. She referenced a 2016 incident where Combs was caught on video physically assaulting his then-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura.
“I am not here to portray my son as perfect because he is not,”Janice admitted. “He has made mistakes in his past, as we all have.”
Janice also addressed the lawsuit filed by Cassie Ventura, which accused Combs of rape, sex trafficking, and physical abuse. She explained that her son’s decision to settle the case was influenced by the complexities of the situation and the fear of admitting certain truths.
Janice believes that many of the recent accusations against her son are financially motivated. She claimed that potential accusers saw the quick settlement of the Ventura lawsuit and believed they could profit from false allegations. She expressed concern that these false accusations could harm true victims of sexual violence.
Janice concluded her statement by expressing her frustration and pain at seeing her son’s life torn apart by false allegations. She remains hopeful that he will eventually be able to clear his name.
