Lisa Marie Presley’s posthumous memoir reveals intimate details about her relationship with Michael Jackson.
The two first met as young people but began a romantic relationship in 1994. At the time, Presley was still married to her first husband, Danny Keough, but they separated after Jackson confessed his love for her during a trip to Las Vegas.
In her memoir, From Here to the Great Unknown, released on Tuesday, October 8, Presley writes, “Michael said, ‘I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I’m completely in love with you. I want us to get married and for you to have my children.’”
Initially taken aback, she responded, “I’m really flattered, I can’t even talk.” By then, she realized she was in love with him too.
Following the Las Vegas incident, Presley and Keough split amicably, allowing her to pursue a relationship with Jackson. In her book, she recounts, “He told me he was still a virgin. I think he had kissed Tatum O’Neal, and he had a thing with Brooke Shields, but it hadn’t been physical apart from a kiss. He mentioned that Madonna had tried to hook up with him once, but nothing happened. I was terrified because I didn’t want to make the wrong move.”
The couple married in May 1994, shortly after her divorce from Keough. Jackson was 35, and Presley was 25. They remained married for more than two years before finalizing their divorce in August 1996.
Jackson passed away from cardiac arrest in 2009 at the age of 50, while Presley died in January 2023 at 54 due to complications from bariatric surgery. After her death, Presley’s daughter, actress Riley Keough, completed the memoir by listening to tapes of her mother’s memories.
