Inter Milan Manager Simone Inzaghi Questioned in Organized Crime Investigation

Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi was questioned by Italian police on Wednesday as part of a criminal investigation into links between the club’s “ultra” fan groups and organized crime.

However, sources familiar with the case emphasize that Inzaghi is not under investigation himself; he was questioned as a witness.

Last week, police arrested 19 prominent “ultra” fans linked to Inter Milan and AC Milan, many of whom are suspected of ties to the ‘Ndrangheta, Europe’s largest mafia group from Calabria.

A 568-page arrest warrant details how a senior Inter ultra leader allegedly contacted Inzaghi before the 2023 Champions League final, requesting the manager lobby for more tickets for the fan group.

Prosecutors consider both Milan clubs to be victims in the case, but acknowledge a need to review their dealings with fan groups and potentially restructure their operations to prevent further criminal infiltration.

Inter Milan has not commented on the investigation, but club chairman Giuseppe Marotta confirmed their cooperation with authorities.
