The Take It Back Movement (TIB) has filed a lawsuit against United Bank for Africa (UBA) seeking N100 million in damages for unlawfully freezing its bank account, according to Sahara Reporters.
The suit, filed at the Federal High Court, Lagos, alleges that the bank’s action is a violation of the organization’s right to property.
In an affidavit sworn in support of the application, the TIB’s Southwest Coordinator, Tomide Johnson, stated that on July 26, 2024, the organization’s bank account with Account No: 2109193911 was unexpectedly frozen by UBA.
Despite multiple attempts to resolve the issue, including sending demand letters and providing requested documents, the bank has refused to lift the restriction.
The TIB argues that the freezing of its account has caused significant financial hardship and disrupted its operations, including charitable activities.
The organization is seeking a court order to unfreeze the account, issue a perpetual injunction restraining UBA from interfering with it, and award N100 million in damages.
