Nigerian Police to Investigate Alleged Brutalization of Man by Osun Officers

The Nigerian police have announced that they are investigating a trending video in which officers allegedly stopped and brutalized a young man named Odesanmi Dare, an automobile dealer in the Osogbo area of Osun State.

The video, which surfaced online on Friday, shows officers from the Osun Command assaulting Dare.

According to eyewitness reports, the young man was mercilessly beaten by policemen outside Rinsayo Filling Station on Ring Road, Òṣogbo, even after he presented the necessary documents to the officers, who appeared uninformed.

In response to the incident, Police Force spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi stated on Saturday via a post on X that the police would not tolerate professional misconduct.

He confirmed that the Osun State command has been assigned to handle the investigation.

Adejobi wrote: “The Osun state command has been tasked to handle this matter while the AIG zone 11 Osogbo has also been asked to take some steps. We won’t condone professional misconduct from any quarters. We have intensified our efforts in addressing complaints and boosting oversight functions and accountability in the police.”
