The Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has ordered the immediate arrest of police officers caught on video extorting bribes from commercial drivers.
This directive follows the viral video shared by user Somto Okonkwo on X (formerly Twitter), which highlighted ongoing issues of police extortion in the region, captioned: “Imo State: Nigeria Police And Extortion, 5&6.”
In response to the public outcry, the Imo State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident and assured the public that strict consequences would follow for the perpetrators.
“The Commissioner of Police for Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, has ordered the immediate arrest of the officer and their team seen in this video. He has also directed the Command’s Complaint Response Unit and Provost department to ensure the officers receive maximum punishment,” Okoye stated.
Additionally, Okoye pledged to personally identify and expose the officers involved. “I will personally identify these officers and share their details here to show that the Command has zero tolerance for extortion. Disciplinary actions will be taken against them to serve as a warning to others. Hold me on this,” he affirmed.
