Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has suspended his Special Adviser on Salary and Pensions, Bashir Ado, over a premature statement regarding a proposed N70,000 minimum wage for state workers.
In a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Bala Ibrahim, the government expressed concern about the circulating statement, which claimed that the governor had already approved the new wage. Ibrahim noted that the committee tasked with advising on the appropriate wage had not yet completed its work.
“This sounds embarrassing and premature as the committee headed by the Head of the State Civil Service, set up by the Government to advise on the appropriate wage has yet to complete its assignment and submit a report,” Mr Ibrahim said.
As a result, Governor Namadi ordered the immediate suspension of Ado pending the findings of an investigative committee led by the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Bello Abdulkadir. The committee has two weeks to submit its report.
The committee members include the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Sagir Musa; the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdullahi Muhammmad; and the Permanent Secretary of Establishment and Service Matters, Muhammad Yahaya.
