Real Madrid’s Pursuit of William Saliba Hits Roadblock as Defender Commits to Arsenal

Real Madrid’s pursuit of William Saliba has hit a roadblock, as both the defender and Arsenal are unwilling to part ways.

The Spanish giants have reportedly identified the French defender as a key target to bolster their defense next summer, but they may end up empty-handed.

According to the Express, Arsenal has no intention of letting the 23-year-old leave, and Saliba himself appears content to remain in north London. He signed a new contract with the club last year and has established himself as one of the world’s top defenders.

Saliba has formed a formidable center-back partnership with Gabriel at the heart of Arsenal’s defense, drawing attention from several clubs. Real Madrid is looking to reinforce their defensive lineup, particularly as Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger, and David Alaba have struggled with injuries in recent seasons. If they cannot secure Saliba, they may shift their focus to Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Romero.

Saliba endured three loan spells before making his full competitive debut for Arsenal against Crystal Palace in 2022. He initially returned to Saint-Etienne after joining the Gunners, followed by loans at OGC Nice and Marseille before finally making his Premier League debut.

Saliba will be in action with France against Belgium on Monday in the Nations League before returning to north London.

Arsenal will face Bournemouth next Saturday as they aim to maintain pressure on Manchester City and Liverpool.
