Nationwide Blackout: National Grid Collapses for Sixth Time in 2024

Nigeria’s electricity grid suffered another nationwide collapse on Monday evening, plunging the country into widespread darkness.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed the incident, which occurred at 6:58 PM, in a statement shared on X.

The AEDC attributed the outage to a system failure from the national grid, affecting power supply across its franchise areas.

The AEDC stated: “Please be informed that the power outage being experienced is due to a system failure from the national grid at 6:58 p.m. today, affecting the power supply to our franchise areas.”

The company reassured the public that they were working diligently with relevant stakeholders to restore power as soon as the grid was stabilized.

This marks the sixth national grid collapse in 2024, raising further concerns about the reliability and stability of Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure.
