Gunmen Kill Police Inspector, Injure Expatriate in Edo Attack

Gunmen have killed a police inspector and injured an expatriate during an attack on workers in a quarry in Ihivbe-Ogben, in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State.

Sources told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the gunmen on Thursday, October 17, ambushed the quarry workers and opened fire on them while they were returning to their base camp in the evening. Another police officer attached to the expatriate was injured in the attack.

“The injured expatriate and the police officer are receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital,” a source said.

The spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Moses Yamu, confirmed the killing of the inspector to reporters on Sunday, October 20, 2024, in Benin City.

The PPRO said the police were investigating the incident and that the police in collaboration with the military were on the trail of the suspects.
