A 28-year-old house help, Lenah Khamatioli, has been arrested in Nairobi for allegedly stealing her South Sudanese employer’s $24,500, an iPhone 15, jewellery, and other valuables.
Lenah was apprehended along with two other suspects by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), who traced them to a hideout where newly acquired items believed to be proceeds of the crime were recovered.
“Kilimani detectives have arrested three suspects linked to a theft in which electronic items, USD 24,500, and other valuables were taken from a house in Westlands, Nairobi, a month ago,” the DCI stated on Monday, 21 October 2024.
The suspects—Lenah Khamatioli (28), Ian Kavaya (28), and Peninah Mutola (32)—were located in Kawangware, where investigators found various new items connected to the crime.

The incident occurred on 24 September, when the house owner, a South Sudanese national, returned to her home on Rahpta Road in Westlands to discover her house help missing along with the cash, an iPhone 15, a Samsung Z Flip, and several pieces of jewellery. She promptly reported the theft at the DCI Kilimani offices, prompting an investigation.
After weeks of forensic tracking, detectives arrested the suspects, who were found in possession of several brand-new items, including a Boxer motorcycle (Reg No. KMGN 840N), a 55-inch Vitron TV, a Hanmac microwave, an HP laptop, a NNix cooker oven, a 6kg Pro gas cylinder, a five-seater sofa, a mattress, two watches, and three brand-new Samsung A50 phones—all of which were seized.
Also confiscated for investigation was an agreement for the purchase of a parcel of land in Kapkangani, Nandi County, valued at Kshs 423,000.
“The suspects remain in custody as the search for additional accomplices and the remaining stolen items continues.”
