The Katsina State Police Command has successfully thwarted a bandit attack and rescued six kidnapping victims in the Unguwar Batsaka area of Jibia town.
According to ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the police spokesperson, the incident occurred on Saturday, October 19, 2024, when a distress call was received at the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters about armed bandits attacking Unguwar Batsaka.
The assailants, armed with dangerous weapons, were reportedly firing indiscriminately while attempting to abduct residents.
“Swiftly, the DPO Jibia mobilised a team of operatives in collaboration with the military, members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC), and vigilantes to the scene, where they engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel that lasted about an hour, forcing the bandits to flee the scene with various degrees of bullet injuries,” Aliyu stated.
“The team successfully rescued 6 kidnapped victims and was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention due to injuries sustained as a result of the bandits attack. Regrettably, one of the victims, simply identified as Rabe Mai Shayi, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
“Efforts are being intensified to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects. Further development will be communicated in due course.”
Authorities urge anyone with information about suspected criminal activities to report to the nearest police station for timely action.
