Kogi State is set to become a major aviation hub in Nigeria following the federal government’s approval for the construction of an international airport in Zariagi.
The state’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, announced the approval on Friday, October 25, 2024. The Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development granted the approval in a letter dated October 9, 2024.
Governor Usman Ododo is committed to ensuring the timely completion of the airport, which is expected to serve 10 surrounding states and alleviate traffic on the busy Lokoja-Abuja route. The airport will position Kogi State as a strategic aviation hub, boosting regional connectivity and economic growth.
The state government believes that the airport’s central location will enable it to capture a significant share of the aviation service market. The project, which will include both passenger and cargo services, is expected to create jobs, stimulate economic growth, and elevate Kogi State’s global standing.
Governor Ododo is determined to engage top aviation industry experts to ensure the project meets international standards. The state government expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Aviation for their support.
