The Defense Headquarters has confirmed that a naval officer at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Dansadau, involved in Operation FANSAN YAMMA, allegedly opened fire under questionable circumstances, resulting in the death of a fellow serviceman.
This incident occurred early Friday morning at approximately 3:12 a.m. in Dansadau, Katsina State, according to Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defense Media Operations.
The officer in question, Leading Seaman Akila A., has been arrested, disarmed, and detained pending an investigation. Maj.-Gen. Buba stated that the case will be referred to a standing court martial, which addresses incidents involving military personnel.
“The administrative process to notify the family of the deceased is currently underway, which is why we have not yet released the name to the public. We will disclose it soon,” Buba added, urging media outlets to report on the incident with caution to respect the family’s emotional well-being.
