A Kano State High Court has sentenced Shamsu Adamu to 14 years imprisonment with hard labour for the rape of a 5-year-old girl.
Adamu, an adult resident of Kunture in Ungogo Local Government Area, was found guilty of rape contrary to Section 283 of the Penal Code Law.
The prosecution presented three witnesses, including the victim, neighbours, and a police officer, to prove their case. The evidence suggested that Adamu lured the victim into his room and raped her on June 7, 2021.
Despite pleading not guilty, Adamu was convicted based on circumstantial evidence, including the victim’s mother’s testimony about blood on the child’s private parts.
The court, however, acquitted Adamu of a separate charge of unnatural offence due to insufficient evidence
