A devastating fire broke out on Saturday night, destroying millions of naira worth of electronic broadcasting equipment at three radio stations in Aba, Abia State.
The affected stations, Enyimba 94.3 FM, Rose 101.9 FM, and Legend 98.3 FM, are located on Margaret Avenue along the PZ axis of Aba-Owerri Road in Aba North Local Government Area. Despite being independently operated, the stations share a building, which exacerbated the damage caused by the fire.
The Abia State Fire Service swiftly responded to the incident, preventing the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings. However, the fire destroyed all broadcasting equipment at the stations, temporarily halting their operations. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
Enyimba TV and Radio Limited, the parent company of the affected stations, has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. A staff member suggested that the fire may have originated in the television section of the main station before spreading to the radio stations.
In light of the incident, the management has announced a temporary shutdown to assess the damage and implement safety measures.
An official from the Abia State Fire Service urged businesses and factories to equip their premises with fire extinguishers and hydrants to facilitate rapid response to potential fires.
