A 28-year-old South African police constable, Lesego Chuene Phefo, tragically took the lives of his girlfriend and her friend before turning the gun on himself.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 2 November 2024, in Itsoseng, Zone 2, near Lichtenburg, South Africa. Phefo, who is stationed at the Mahikeng Public Order Policing Service (POPS), reportedly entered a house where he found his girlfriend, Tlhalefo Setlhare, socialising with friends, including Vumile Gcuku.
In a shocking turn of events, Phefo drew his service pistol and fatally shot both Setlhare and Gcuku. Another individual present, Mojalefa Rakoma, sustained gunshot injuries and was immediately rushed to the hospital.
Phefo was also found deceased at the scene with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, the firearm lying nearby.
The motive behind this horrific act remains unclear at this time.
South African Police are currently investigating cases of double murder, attempted murder, and an inquest.
