Footballer Killed by Lightning Strike During Match in Peru

A tragic incident occurred during a football match in Huancayo, Peru, when a player was killed and five others injured by a lightning strike.

The match between Juventud Bellavista and Familia Chocca was halted due to an approaching thunderstorm. However, before the players could fully leave the field, lightning struck, fatally injuring 39-year-old Jose Hugo de la Cruz Meza.

Another player, 40-year-old goalkeeper Juan Chocca Llacta, suffered serious burns from the strike. At least eight players were seen falling to the ground after the lightning bolt.

Reports suggest that De la Cruz may have been wearing a metal bracelet, which could have made him more vulnerable to the lightning strike.
