Man Fakes Own Kidnap to Avoid Debt Repayment

A 41-year-old man, Enitan Awoyemi, has been arrested by the Ogun State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) for allegedly faking his own kidnapping to evade a debt of N1 million.

According to a statement released by the state Amotekun Commander, Brig Gen Alade Adedigba (retd.), Awoyemi, a resident of Irolu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area, was apprehended on Wednesday.

On 10th November, Awoyemi’s wife reported to Amotekun that her husband had been kidnapped and a ransom of N5 million demanded. However, investigations revealed that Awoyemi had incurred significant gambling debts and fabricated the kidnapping to avoid repayment.

Despite an attempt to take his own life, Awoyemi was apprehended and is currently receiving medical attention. Once discharged, he will be handed over to the police for further legal action.

Amotekun has commended the collaborative efforts of the Vigilantes Group of Nigeria and other community stakeholders in apprehending the suspect and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the authorities.
