A 33-year-old man, Yusuf Idris, has been arrested by the Nasarawa State Police Command for allegedly defrauding unsuspecting job seekers.
According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel, on Sunday, 24th November 2024, Idris used the name of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Shehu Umar Nadada, to deceive victims into believing he could secure them jobs in the Nigeria Police Force and Nasarawa State Hospital Management Board.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Idris fraudulently obtained N300,000 from one Monday Akinde under the pretense of securing a job at the hospital management board. He also attempted to sell a fake police recruitment slot for N500,000.
To further convince his victims, Idris lured them to the State Police Command Headquarters and left them at the entrance. He was subsequently arrested while lurking around the premises.
A search of Idris’s belongings uncovered two fake promotion letters and N300,000 in cash.
The Commissioner of Police warned the public to be cautious of employment scams and avoid sharing personal information on social media. He also issued a stern warning to those involved in such activities, promising that they would be apprehended and prosecuted.
