Two officers of the Lagos State Taskforce, Fatai Yusuf (42) and Hammed Garuba (38), have been dismissed for theft during a recent raid on a hotel in Gowon Estate, Ipaja.
The incident, captured on CCTV footage, showed the officers stealing mobile phones from the scene of the operation, which was suspected of being a hub for drug users and traffickers.
A thorough investigation by the agency’s Disciplinary Committee led to their termination. Both officers now face legal action for theft.
CSP Adetayo Akerele, Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, strongly condemned the officers’ actions, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to professionalism and integrity. He warned that any action compromising public trust or the agency’s credibility would not be tolerated.
Despite the incident, the Taskforce continues its crackdown on drug hotspots. In a subsequent operation in Gowon Estate, 43 suspects were arrested and illegal drug hideouts were demolished.
Earlier, 53 drug peddlers and users were apprehended and remanded at Badagry Correctional Centre following their court arraignment.
