A 23-year-old man from Mncedisi Village, Lower Gweru, Zimbabwe, has been arrested and charged with assault after a vicious attack on his mother on 18th November 2024.
The incident, which has sparked widespread outrage in Zimbabwe, occurred when the intoxicated man returned home and accused his mother of harbouring resentment towards his wife. The situation escalated rapidly, with the man threatening to kill his mother and even making chilling remarks about decapitating her.
In a horrifying display of violence, the man repeatedly struck his mother with an iron bar, targeting her left eye, forehead, and other parts of her body. He even stripped her naked to prevent her escape as she cried out for help.
Neighbours, alerted by her screams, intervened and rescued the woman from further harm. She sustained severe injuries, including a deep forehead wound and severe swelling around her left eye, requiring immediate medical attention.
The man was arrested and charged with domestic violence. He appeared in Gweru Magistrates’ Court on 29th November 2024, where he was found guilty. He remains in custody and is scheduled to be sentenced on 3rd December 2024.
